Andrew Darmohraj, APPMA Senior Vice President
Of the many accomplishments Andy Darmohraj has achieved in his decade spent with APPMA, none is quite as impressive as his role in the overwhelming and continually growing success of the Global Pet Expo. As APPMA’s Senior Vice President, Andy supervises the activities for the marketing communications department and leads the Association’s trade show department. Since his arrival at APPMA in 1997, booth space at Global Pet Expo, the largest annual pet products trade show in the world, has doubled in size and show attendance is up 250%.
“The unparalleled growth of this show further proves just how much the pet industry is growing and what an important role Global Pet Expo plays in the industry,” Andy said. “In my mind, the success of this show clearly has been influenced by the continual development of our members’ innovative products– and I must also add that none of this would be possible without the staff that works behind the scenes to ensure this show comes together. From quality buyer and media attendance to logistics and exhibitor assistance, I’ve never seen such a dedicated staff that makes every last detail a team priority. I have great pride in this show, and above all in the people that make it happen.”
Global Pet Expo, the premier event of the pet products industry, was ranked #134 last year in the prestigious Tradeshow Week 200 Show, which is an annual award given to the top 200 largest trade shows in the United States and Canada, and is published by Tradeshow Week magazine. The success of the 2006 trade show was also highlighted in a one-hour special that aired nationally on the HGTV channel in August.
Under Andy’s direction, the Association’s Marketing Communications and Public Relations department refocused to promote members, their products, and APPMA’s mission to highlight the many wonderful aspects of responsible pet ownership. Since 2003, APPMA has achieved millions of impressions in media coverage with such prominent media outlets as The Today Show, Good Morning America, HGTV, CNNFN, MSNBC, ABC World News Tonight, The View, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and The New York Times.
Andy has more than 15 years experience in association management and trade show production. Prior to joining the APPMA staff, he worked in management positions for association-owned trade shows in the hospitality and gift industries. He earned an M.S. in secondary education from St. John’s University, and a B.A. in English from Hunter College of the City University of New York. He earned the esteemed Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential, is an active member of the International Association for Exhibition Management and serves on the Board of Directors of the New York Society of Association Executives.
Andy, along with his wife and two young sons live in Pleasantville, New York. Aside: As this story was being written, Andy and his wife were considering expanding their family… the question is will it include Fido, Fluffy or Nemo? Stay tuned.
