Andrew Darmohraj, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of the American Pet Products Association (APPA), has been with the Association since 1997. He oversees all aspects of APPA’s day-to-day operations including membership, accounting, and the marketing communications and public relations department which promotes APPA’s mission, its members and the pet product industry. As a result, APPA has garnered millions of impressions in media coverage with such prestigious media outlets as The Today Show, Good Morning America, CNNFN, MSNBC, ABC World News Tonight, The View, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and The New York Times.
Along with his operational duties, Andy’s primary responsibility is oversight and management of the industry’s premier event, Global Pet Expo. Before Global Pet Expo debuted in 2005, Andy played an important role in the transition of APPA joining forces with the Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA) to merge the Association’s trade shows. In 1998, Andy’s first trade show with APPA, there were 1,234 booths, 528 exhibitors and 1,432 buyers. Since then, Global Pet Expo has nearly tripled in the number of booths, more than doubled the number of exhibiting companies, and show attendance is up more than 370%. Over the years, Andy has gained a lot of attention from the trade show industry and has been asked to conduct seminars for numerous organizations on the topics of association marketing and trade show-related issues.
The tremendous success of the continuously growing Global Pet Expo has also been recognized by the trade show industry. Trade Show Executive Magazine (TSE) has ranked Global Pet Expo #51 on their exclusive “Gold 100” list. And, Global Pet Expo continues as the pet industry’s largest annual trade show based on trade show industry standards. In fact, Global Pet Expo was also recognized by TSE as “The Greatest Show of 2014.”
A Certified Association Executive (CAE), Andy has more than 20 years experience in association management and trade show production. Andy is a recipient of Pet Age Magazine’s coveted ICON Award which honors pet industry leaders who have shown a long-term commitment to the success of the pet industry based on experience, integrity and leadership.
Prior to joining the APPA staff, Andy worked in management positions for association-owned trade shows in the hospitality and gift industries. Andy earned a M.S. in secondary education from St. John’s University, and a B.A in English from Hunter College of the City University of New York. He is past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the New York Society of Association Executives (NYSAE) and is an active member of the International Association for Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), and serves on the board of the NY chapter of IAEE. Andy lives in Pleasantville, New York with his wife, sons and their dog, Lola.
