PET INDUSTRY ORGANIZES PET RELIEF EFFORTS

- Leading Pet Industry Organization American Pet Products Association (APPA) Connecting Those Offering Assistance with Those in Need–

GREENWICH, CT., September 6, 2005 One of the Pet Industry’s leading not-for profit groups, The American Pet Products Association, says it has been overwhelmed with people and companies wanting to help those in need in the Gulf Coast and is organizing a relief effort to provide a central clearing house of information from animal shelters and people in need of pet assistance and products to those in a position to help.

There is a definite need for our industry to pull together and maximize our resources to assist during this tremendously difficult time,” said APPA COO and Managing Director, Bob Vetere. “We know there are dozens of shelters that could use assistance right now and we want to be able to provide a simple way to direct large companies and people able to help in the right direction.”

The Association which consists of more than 850 pet product manufacturers has posted a list of pet shelters, clinics and organizations in need of assistance on its website. APPA is also broadcasting information to hundreds of companies and organizations that can provide assistance, and is asking these companies and media outlets to post links to the Association’s website.

Along with posting the information on the APPA website, the Association plans to send regular communications to hundreds of major pet companies informing them of pet related needs and means of assisting.

Currently the association is asking all shelters, clinics and related pet organizations to contact them directly regarding their needs by emailing jennifer@americanpetproducts.org or by logging onto http://www.americanpetproducts.org/donationrequest.

“We are doing our best to communicate with shelters and clinics to assess their needs and identify specific pet products that are in short supply and hope to relay this information to as many resources as possible,” said Vetere.  “We know everyone in the area is tremendously busy relocating operations and placing pets, so we want to do what we can to streamline relief efforts around the rest of the country.”

APPA has compiled this most current information on shelters seeking donations:
