APPA Retains Pet Food Nutritionist

GREENWICH, CT., December 19, 2005 – The American Pet Products Association (APPA) Managing Director and C.O.O. Bob Vetere announced today the association has retained a pet food nutritionist to represent APPA’s interests with the American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO).

Dr. Dave Dzanis will be APPA’s advisor to AAFCO and provide advice to members on pet food labeling issues.Dr. Dzanis is a board-certified veterinary nutritionist and consultant for the pet food and related industries in matters regarding nutrition, labeling and other regulatory issues.He is a former pet food expert with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration where he served on the AAFCO Pet Food Committee and chaired the AAFCO Canine and Feline Nutrition Expert Subcommittees.

Dr. Dzanis is also a diplomat and past chair of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition, Past President of the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition and member of the National Research Council Subcommittee on Dog and Cat Nutrition.

“Dr. Dzanis’ expertise will greatly enhance the services APPA is able to offer its members as well as help ensure that as pet products manufacturers, we are always striving to provide pets and their owners with the safest and highest quality products,” said Vetere.
