(Stamford, CT) – American Pet Products Association (APPA) CEO Steve King announced today that the Association has renewed its support of the CATalyst Council, a facilitator that brings together shelter and adoption organizations, veterinarians and industry stakeholders for the betterment of companion cats.

“APPA is proud to support the CATalyst Council and the important work they are doing in the pet care community to improve the lives and wellbeing of companion cats,” said King. “By supporting initiatives such as this, we are furthering the Association’s mission to promote responsible pet care.”

According to APPA’s 2019-2020 National Pet Owners Survey, 34 percent of U.S. households own a cat, the second highest just behind dogs (50 percent). Additionally, animal shelters are the leading source from which cats are obtained, and the most noted benefits of cat ownership are companionship, love, fun to have in household and relaxation/stress relief.

The CATalyst Council promotes continued collaboration between stakeholders in animal health and welfare, the human-animal bond, and pet retail for the betterment of companion cats. Working with industry partners, CATalyst Council creates networking opportunities to make the greatest possible impact on the lives and health of cats through unique partnerships, programs, and presence in the industry.

“With support from organizations like APPA, we have the opportunity to put additional resources behind the initiatives that promote lifetime healthcare for companion cats, resulting in healthier and happier outcomes,” said Jane Brunt, Executive Director of CATalyst Council.
