Despite the Winter Weather, Dogs Still Need Exercise

- The American Pet Products Association announces products to help protect pups from the cold and make a winter walk more enjoyable for them. -

(Greenwich, CT)— They sit by the door wagging their tail, waiting for you to put on your shoes and take them outside. Next to a scratch behind the ear and a tasty treat, a walk is a four-legged friend’s favorite activity! Even though the days may be getting shorter and colder, dogs still need to get outside for exercise. According to the 2009/2010 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, there are more than 77 million dogs owned in the United States, and 13 percent are considered obese or overweight.  Regular exercise will help fight pet obesity and boredom and gives owners a chance to bond with their dog.

A leash is not the only necessity for an afternoon stroll. Here are some products produced by members of the American Pet Products Association to help make walks fun and enjoyable for pets and their owners:

OUT! LED Flashlight Dispenser & Pick-Up Bags – Daylight Savings is now here and many pet owners are left walking their dogs in the dark before and after work. The built-in LED Flashlight provides added safety at night and makes picking up after your pet, quick and easy, no matter the time of the day. The dispenser includes 30 waste pick-up bags, and easily attaches to any leash. www.outpetcare.com
