APPA Vice President Andrew Darmohraj earns Certified Association Executive Credential

Greenwich, CT (July 6, 2005) Ė The American Society of Association Executives has announced that Andrew Darmohraj, Vice President and Deputy Managing Director of The American Pet Products Association (APPA) has earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential.  The CAE is the highest professional credential in the association industry.  Less than five percent of all association professionals have earned the CAE.

To be designated as a Certified Association Executive, an applicant must have a minimum of three years experience in nonprofit organization management, complete a minimum of 75 hours of specialized professional development, pass a stringent examination in association management, and pledge to uphold a code of ethics.  To maintain the certification, individuals must undertake ongoing professional development and activities in association and non-profit management.  Approximately 3,200 association professionals currently hold the CAE credential, which was first awarded in 1961.

Darmohraj leads the trade show department at APPA, overseeing all aspects of the associationís joint show, Global Pet Expo, with the Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA).  Additionally, he supervises the activities of the marketing communications department, which promotes APPA, its members and the pet product industry.

Since Darmohrajís arrival at APPA in 1997, booth space at Global Pet Expo, the largest annual pet products trade show in the world, has grown by 88% and show attendance is up 250%.  The trade show is the premier event of the pet products industry and is ranked #141 in the prestigious Tradeshow Week 200 Show, which is a list of the top 200 largest trade shows in the United States and Canada, published by Tradeshow Week magazine.

Darmohraj has more than 15 years experience in association management and trade show production.  Prior to joining the APPA staff, Darmohraj worked in management positions for association-owned trade shows in the hospitality and gift industries.

Darmohraj earned a M.S. in Secondary Education from St. Johnís University, and a B.A. in English from Hunter College of the City University of New York.  He is an active member of the International Association for Exhibition Management and serves on the Education Committee of the New York Society of Association Executives.
